Partners In What?

Description

Just "partners" will suffice, I'm sure! Yes, this ship occupies a large amount of my headspace 24/7. I am sure I'll be tired of drawing these two some day soon but--

Hahahano. What I am going to do is force myself to diversify to prevent stagnation. I only have the one digital AppleShy picture left to colour (gonna be such a dis-as-teeur) and then I have to make new stuff. I need to get better at Rarity in particular, but also different body shapes. Princesses. Griffins. Whatever. Maybe even bipeds. Gasp.

Anyway. I had a huge rant stored about scanners and how the colours are a bit messed up, but that's to be expected I hear. It'd be incredibly unattractive and repetitive to say "it looks better on paper" every time. The scanner's just better at picking up errors than my eyes, I suspect. Still haven't picked up that smoother paper.

It's a little sad to "ruin" a picture with inexpert colouring like this, trying out different methods, but it's the only way to get practice. My lineart is ahead of my colouring--which doesn't say much--and I feel it shows. I tried pencil inlines for Flutters' tail, coloured inlines for her mane, and some I-don't-know-whats for AJ's mane and tail. I think next time, with some patience (holy crap I rushed this), I will know how to do this far better.

AJ's coat came out well enough though, and, well, it's still AppleShy. Can't mess that up completely.

I think whatever technique you used on AJ's tail came out the best between a show-style and a hair texture of all the hair in the pic.

Is your scanner deadening the colors a bit? Mine does and I have to bump the hue up a tad in ps if I want it to look "right". Could also try scanning with the lid oPen and see if that makes a difference.
